Leonard Hestad
July 20, 1918 - November 14, 2014
Leonard was predeceased by his parents Christian and Amalia Hestad, his four brothers and seven sisters, his first wife Edith (mom) in 1980, his second wife Lillian in 2008, daughter in law Brenda Hestad and grandson Jason Hestad.  He leaves to mourn his loving family: Lionel (Sandra) Hestad of Armstrong, BC, Glenda Hestad of Red Deer and Brad Hestad of Castor; grandchildren Melanie (Wes) Litt and their son Eamon of Calgary, Chris (Niesha) of Edmonton, Matt (Gillian) of Lethbridge, Emilea Clinton of Red Deer, Laynie Clinton of Chongqing, China, Jasmine (Kyle) Sprackman of Beaumont and Jeremy (Brittany Shaw) of Red Deer; as well as other family and friends.
Leonard was born and raised on a farm near Lake Alma, Saskatchewan.  After his parents died, at the age of 18, he assumed responsibility for the family farm and persevered through much adversity to make a living and support his family. He married Edith Slater on July 11, 1949. They had 3 children, Lionel, Glenda and Brad. They remained on the farm until 1975 at which time they retired to Estevan, Saskatchewan. Edith passed away in 1980.
Leonard later married Lillian and spent many happy years travelling through Saskatchewan and to many other places. They lived in Estevan, Rose Valley and finally Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
Leonard had numerous interests including trapping, hunting, fishing, and taxidermy. He loved to dance and listen to and play “old time” music.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and playing cards. He liked to bake his own bread and making lefse was a tradition he lovingly shared with his children and grandchildren.
His colorful stories and his sense of humor will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held for Leonard on the prairies which he loved in the summer of 2015.

My deepest sympathy to the Hestad family. So sadly there are too few of the old Lake Alma farmers left and your Dad will be missed. May HE give you strength at this sad time.

We were neighbors (across the alley) in Weyburn. We enjoyed our visits with Leonard out in the yard and when he would bring vegetables over. We express our deepest sympathy to Leonard's family. He was truly a one-of-a-kind.

Lionel, Glenda & Brad,

Our deepest condolences on the loss of your father. I remember him as a special friend & neighbour to my parents, Nick & Norma Brilz, and as a very pleasant man, always joking & laughing. May these memories help you in your sorrow.

To the Hestad family - our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Your Dad was a regular visitor to Mom, especially when she was in Tatagwa and she truly enjoyed the visit and of course the lefse that he brought at Christmas time.
May he rest in peace!

Sincere Sympathy to you the family of Leonard. I have fond memories of him when he used to come to the Post Office in Lake Alma just to have a chat. The oldtimers are getting fewer and fewer down there.
